2: Message from the Friends of Hope
The first event of this year, a free (and delicious) morning tea, was held on Monday 23rd September. A big thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event - it was wonderful to meet new people and learn about everyone and their experience at Hope.
We will continue to run events throughout the school year! Stay tuned to this blog for announcements. We encourage you to join the Hope Parents Community Facebook page at www.facebook.com/groups/friendsofhopeoki for the latest ideas and discussions.

3: PLG for October: Resilient
October's Personal Learning Goal focus is being “Resilient”. This is an important goal to focus on at the near the start of the school year as students are fully emersed in the learning, allowing them to continue with positively and purpose. Students can demonstrate being resilient in the following ways:
Having a positive attitude, even when they are not immediately successful at an activity.
Seeking out help only when they truly need it, having strategies to support them when they are stuck with their learning.
Realizing learning takes effort and investing this effort into challenging tasks.
To keep trying, even when learning is challenging and to improve through further practice.
Please encourage your child in demonstrating this month's goal by discussing how they have demonstrated being resilient outside of school life too!
4: Learning Highlight - Prep class art
Recently, I have used the blog to highlight how different subjects connect with the IPC thematic units. We first explained how the Grade 4 and 5 unit "Mission to Mars" is connected across multiple subjects. Next, we highlighted how cooking class has specific learning goals and connection to the in-class learning. Then, we discussed the "Mission to Mars" a bit deeper, providing examples of specific activities and tasks the students completed. Today, we will discuss prep class Art!
In the unit "Who am I" students learn about themselves & others and learn to celebrate our differences and commonalities. They take a focused look at what life is through history, art, athletics, and science. For art they viewed different types of portraits from around the world and during different historical periods. They discussed the differences and what makes them special. Then they attempted to copy their favorite portrait, using their own techniques, colors, and style.
