2: New Teacher Introduction
In a very bittersweet moment, we have to both welcome a new teacher and say goodbye to another. Ms. Helene and her husband will move to the USA soon and unfortunately will be leaving our school. Her last day with us will be March 24th. She will be around to help in small ways before they leave Okinawa, but it will be in a limited capacity as she prepares for their move.
To take over the Grade 6 Class from April 3rd is our new teacher, Mr. Erwin! Please read his bio and join me in welcoming him to our community!
"Mabuhay! Greetings to everyone! I am Erwin C. Llavore from Agoo, Philippines. I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education, Majoring in General Science. Moreover, I completed postgraduate studies, specifically an MA in Science Education, an MA in Educational Management, and a Doctorate in Education in the Philippines. I also completed a scholarship in Israel, a diplomatic program in Japan, and volunteered in an NGO in Thailand for human rights education for children. I have been a teacher for more than 15 years and most recently worked as a school administrator in a public school.
Together with these experiences, comes a strong drive to support learners' holistic growth in their chosen fields and to assist them in their learning opportunities to allow them to achieve their best. I love traveling, nature, cultural heritage sites, experiencing different traditions, and celebrating diversity."
Welcome to Hope, Mr. Erwin!
We wish you all the best, Ms. Helene. Thank you so much for your amazing warmth, collaboration, support, and positivity. We will all miss you and hope that we can see you again!
3: Learning Highlight
The 8th Grade class had its exit point last Monday. Students concluded the Responsibility unit and extended their learning by creating their songs. Each group focuses on lessons covered in the class that highlight their learning and understanding of legal and illegal drugs and great leaders worldwide who greatly impact people's lives in a specific region. They demonstrated critical thinking skills by carefully creating lyrics and melody to ensure their audience and listeners understood the message about the Big Idea. Also, they showed support to each other to be able to achieve the class-shared goal by covering subjects, PLGs, and international targets.
