IPC workshop:
What Do Knowledge, Skills, and Understanding Look Like at Hope?
After our first Parent Workshop, many parents expressed interest in understanding what this learning looks like at our school.
In our second Parent Workshop, parents will experience how these three aspects of learning—knowledge, skills, and understanding—are integrated into one of our IPC units and where the learning goals are outlined within the unit.
Get ready to see how learning takes place at Hope from both the teachers' and students' perspectives.
IMYC Workshop:
On March 28, please join us to explore what "making meaning" looks like in our school, especially for our IMYC learners. This session is highly recommended for current and prospective middle school parents. Parents will engage in activities designed to break down the Big Idea, connect it to personal life experiences, and discover how this approach is applied both in the classroom and at home. We look forward to having you join us in person. The workshop will begin at 16:00.
High School workshop: On March 28th, please join our school in ushering in a new era for the High School. This information session will focus on updating the Hope Community on the future of the high school curriculum and what will remain the same as we go in to academic year 2025/2026. This information session is highly recommended for our current Grade 8 parents as well as our current Grade 9-11 parents. We look forward to you joining either live or on the livestream (this link will be shared out prior to the workshop). The information session will begin promptly at 16:00.
3: Learning Highlights - G5, G8, and HS
G5 did wonderful in their Exit Point on Tuesday for the unit, “Existing, Endangered, Extinct” where they were provided choice and agency on how they would like to showcase their learning. They had to keep in mind the big ideas of this learning journey:
-Information about the biodiversity of specific biomes
-Conclude the cause and effects to the loss of biodiversity
-Advocate solutions
-Share what direct action they have done to contribute to the improvement of the environment
They reflected well and were delighted to acknowledge their own growth!
In our G8 - Science Knowledge Harvest, we need to cover a lot of vocabulary for review, but the class makes it more creative and engaging. We started with charades, where each classmate had to act out different science words, followed by creating a poster or video about various vocabulary terms. Instead of simply explaining and writing down definitions, some of the students created videos to demonstrate their knowledge of different forces. Here is one example of the activity. This relates to their unit Challenge, and increases the possibility of remembering needed vocabulary.
You can view the video HERE.
The HS students used their multilingual skills and wrote down various tongue twisters in World languages class!
