2: PLG of the Month: Collaborator

November has brought a new Personal Learning Goal focus. This month, the Hope community will be exploring the importance of being a strong collaborator. During last week's assemblies, all students at Hope learned about the type of actions it takes to be a strong collaborator. This means students will:

  • Contributing to different group work projects, helping the team to achieve their goals.

  • Understanding their role within a group project and how they can use it to support the progress of the group.

  • Offering support to others to help everyone achieve their goals.

  • Spotting opportunities to take on a leadership role within a group, identify the different strengths of the group and use this to achieve the group’s goals.

  • Taking responsibility for their contributions and actions within a group.

We hope to see lots of successful collaboration this month (especially during the upcoming Sports Day) and hope you can all support your children in developing this goal both inside and outside of school.

3: Upcoming Change

We are excited to announce an upcoming change in our school wide tools. We have proudly partnered with a new company that is developing a new communication and organization platform called Sisi. Currently, we are assisting them in the active testing of this platform and are excited for what is to come.

This platform has a variety of tools that will help streamline and simplify a lot of our school procedures. They include:

  • Easy communication with families

    • Easy messages to and from teachers & admin

    • Announcements and posts on an easy to view "feed"

  • Tuition payments (with easy set up of credit card or bank transfer payments!)

  • Report Cards

  • Attendance

  • Enrollment & Reenrollment

  • and a soon to come IPC / IMYC learning management system for teachers and students (similar to Google Classroom or SeeSaw but specifically designed for IPC/IMYC).

In the coming weeks, parents will receive an email invite to activate your account and being interacting with the teachers through this platform. We will have a slow rollout that transitions from our current email-based communication to the Sisi platform. During this time, please continue to give us feedback so we can collaborate with Sisi to make improvements.

4: Internships

At Hope we strive to have an impact on our local community and the development of those around us. Currently, we have 2 people that have joined our school on an internship basis to earn their required practicum time for their university degrees in Education.

Mrs. Debie Nobles has joined our Grade 4 class and is actively engaged with the in-class learning alongside Mr. SooEung. Mr. Marcio Santos has joined as an intern for our PE program. He is shadowing Ms. Kalena and assisting with the PE classes.

If you see them around, please welcome them to our school community! I will allow them to introduce themselves:

"Hi, I'm Debie! I'm from Australia and currently pursuing my Master of Teaching (Primary Education) degree. I'm thrilled to be doing my student teaching at Hope, where I've been given the incredible opportunity to learn alongside the wonderful teachers here. You'll also see me around the school as a substitute teacher. I'm passionate about working with young learners and excited to be part of the Hope community!"

"Bom dia! My name is Mr. Marcio Santos and I am from Brazil. I am currently studying Physical Education at Pythagoras University Unopar Anhanguera, and I am thrilled to be doing my internship program at Hope. Besides teaching PE, I also teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu here on island. I am very excited to be a part of the Hope Community!"
